The UN Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Haiti, Gustavo Gallon, will next week an assessment visit on the situation of human rights and especially the civil and political rights.

The independent expert will analyze the situation a few days before the launch of the electoral process. "The current pre-electoral context deserves special attention, and I would like to inform me of the situation more directly in the field," said Mr. Gallón.

During this 10-day visit Mr Gallón should evaluate the recommendations made at its previous mission in July 2014. "As in my two previous missions, I will focus on five priorities, namely, the social inequality, the situation of persons deprived of liberty, the rule of law, violations of human rights committed in the past, and the impact of disasters on human rights, all in a new political context " said the expert.

Mr. Gallón will have working sessions with members of the government, the diplomatic corps, officials of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH), UN agencies, defense organization responsible for human rights, and leaders of civil society.
