Haitian President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by Foreign Minister Antonio Rodrigue, Presidents of the two Houses of Parliament and members of his private cabinet, met with his Italian counterpart, Sergio Mattarella, on Friday, January 26, 2018, at the Presidential Palace of Italy in Rome.

The objective of this meeting was to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Haiti and Italy, as the two countries do not have diplomatic representation in the capital of the other.

President Jovenel Moïse pleaded to fill this void, while the Italian head of state, for his part, showed a good knowledge of the potential of Haiti. He showed great interest in developing economic and trade relations between the two countries. It was also decided to create a joint commission as part of a tourism development project.

In addition, the two heads of state discussed topics related to the economy, tourism, agribusiness and energy. The Italian head of state also promised to work to intensify relations between Italy and Haiti. He praised the leadership of the Haitian President and expressed his wishes for success and prosperity to the Republic of Haiti.

President Moise's meeting with his Italian counterpart concludes his three-day official visit to Rome, where he also met Pope Francis.
