Haitian President held bilateral meeting with his Chilean counterpart on the sidelines of the 8th Summit of the Americas

Haitian President Jovenel Moise, earlier today, held a bilateral meeting with his Chilean counterpart, President Sebastien Pi
ñera, on the sidelines of the 8th Summit of Heads of States and Government of Latin America, taking place in Lima, Peru on April 13-14.

President Moise is in Peru, representing Haiti at the 8th Summit of Heads of States and Government of the Americas, to debate corruption

 
In the meeting requested by Haitian President, Jovenel Moise, the two heads of states mainly addressed issues  related to migration of Haitian citizens to Chile and the recent amendments to the Migration Act, signed by the chilean president just less than 48 hrs ago, aimed at curbing Haitian and Venezuelan migration into the country.More than 100.000 Haitians migrated to Chile in 2017 alone.

"The objective of what we have done in Chile is to have a modern migration policy that allows migration, in an orderly, regulated and safe way," said Piñera, minutes before the meeting.
