On the sidelines of the 8th Summit of Heads of States and Government of the Americas in Peru, Haitian President Jovenel Moise, on Saturday April 14, had a brief meeting with American R-FL Senator, Marco Rubio.

Following the brief meeting, the Haitian President released the following statement on his official twitter account.

“ I spoke on Saturday in the Peruvian Capital, with the honorable Senator from Florida, Marco Rubio.- This warm meeting allowed us to discuss the strengths related to the strengthening of ties between the United States and Haiti.”

The Republican Senator from Florida has been particularly vocal when it comes to critiquing some of the decisions of the Haitian president.

Marco Rubio: " I will do all I can to make sure not a penny of U.S. taxpayer dollars goes" towards Haiti's new army

“ Haiti has so many needs but an army isn’t one of them. Instead of investing money in police force & economic development they use it on army led by human rights violators. I will do all I can to make sure not a penny of U.S taxpayers $ goes towards this.”  He said on Twitter last month, in response to reports that all of the men appointed by President Jovenel Moise to head the reconstituted army, were part of a notorious death squad in the previous disbanded Haitian military.
