Hours before the results of November 20th presidential election are published, Haiti's interim president Jocelerme Privert addressed the nation from the national palace in the presence of the press.

During his speech, the president exhorted the population to remain calm, while encouraging the candidates to seek legal route for any revendications concerning irregularities or suspected frauds, instead of taking and or encouraging their supporters to the streets and violently protest.

"The use of violence can only spoil the fruits of this beautiful day that we all built on 20 November 2016" Said the president, referring to how surprisingly smooth the elections were.

"The preliminary results of these elections should not in any way, compromise the socio-economic stability of the country." continued the president.

President Privert also insisted that the executive branch of government did not interfere with the Provisional Electoral Council's work (CEP), as rumors started to suggest.
