The Dominican Consul in Anse-a-Pitre, Maximo Feliz Terrero, on Monday, held an urgent meeting with the mayor of Anse-a-Pitres, Harry Bruno, following the refusal of the latter last Friday, to open the border and allow the Binational market to take place.

Haitian officials refuse to open border with Dominican Republic to allow bi-national market

Last Friday the Dominican mayor of Pedernales, Luis Manuel Féliz Matos issued a resolution ordering the reopening of the border market, but Mayor Harry Brujo, from the Anse-a-Pitre-Haiti community, did not allow that the countrymen crossed the border to participate in the bilateral business, alleging insecurity in the face of the threats that emerged in Pedernales, where Haitians were given 24 hours to leave, following the death of the couple Julio Díaz Reyes Matos and Neida Féliz Urbaez,

The mayor and the consul had a lengthy discussion before agreeing to meet next Thursday morning at 10:00 AM, with the aim of agreeing to the final reopening of the binational market this Friday.

The demand of Dominican products on the Haitian side of the border, in Anse-a-Pitres continues to decrease dramatically, and Dominicans have been pressuring their officials to find a solution so the binational market can resume.
