Chile extends the stay of some of its soldiers in Haiti for two more months

The chilean Senate yesterday, has authorized the extension of a limited number of Chilean peacekeepers in Haiti to secure the transfer of machinery, vehicles and heavy equipment from the definitive withdrawal of the military contingent.

According to information released today by the Senate, the letter approved by the Senate extends the stay in Haiti of three officers and 55 Chilean soldiers, about 10% of the total contingent, until June 30, two months more than the originally established term.

The withdrawal of nearly half a thousand Chileans deployed at the United Nations Mission for the Stabilization of Haiti (MINUSTAH) comes a few weeks after Chilean Presidet Michelle Bachelet's visited to personally to announced the departure of her troops.
