Heavy rains and mudslides in the northern city of Archaie on Wednesday, has left at least one person dead and dozens injured, including five who are in critical conditions.

Archaie has been experiencing heavy rains lately and authorities are asking residents to stay on alert and to follow official instructions for evacuation, if necessary.

Haitian Senate asks to declare the south of the country in emergency due to rain

The Haitian Senate passed a resolution yesterday urging the government to declare a state of emergency in the south of the country due to the intense rains that have severely affected that region for the past two weeks.


The rains of the last two weeks in Haiti have left at least seven dead, thousands displaced, hundreds of houses destroyed and nearly all spring crops wiped out while the situation continues to worsen.

Haiti's main international airport reopens after being flooded

The Toussaint Louverture International Airport, Haiti's largest, has reopened Wednesday after water flooded the arrival and departure areas, causing the American Airlines flight 2277 from Ft Lauderdale to be diverted to the neighboring Dominican Republic.


Irving Mehu, head of the National Airport Authority (AAN) apologized for " this disturbing situation, caused by the downpour of this Tuesday, May, 2, causing the flood at the arrival and departure zones."
