CARICOM congratulates Haiti on its 214th independence anniversary

CARICOM Secretary General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, sent a message of congratulations to the President of Haiti,  Jovenel Moïse, on the occasion of the 214th anniversary of the country's independence on January 1, 2018.


The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) sends its warmest congratulations to the Government and people of the Republic of Haiti on the occasion of the 214th anniversary of independence.

As a nation and as a member of the Caribbean Community, this opportunity is, indeed, a cause for celebration since history has proved that the success of the Haitian Revolution has extended to the social and political success of the region.

The Republic of Haiti has demonstrated its resilience to the world on many occasions. The courage of Haiti and the courage of the Haitian people served as inspiration to the inhabitants of the region. The country's contribution to the world of art, music, literature and the academic world has gained international renown.

Haiti has also shaped the Caribbean Community, particularly through its commitment to the well-being of people with disabilities. CARICOM looks forward to Haiti's leadership from January 1st 2018 and hopes that leadership will provide an enabling environment for the advancement of our integration efforts.

The Caribbean Community salutes Haiti as it continues its journey of self-determination.
