Haiti announced today that it has recalled for consultations Its ambassador to the United Nations, Denis Regis, after a statement issued by the representative of the secretary general of the UN in Haiti, Susan Page, on facts of blood in which the National Police (PNH) was involved.

The Haitian Foreign Ministry reacted in this way to a document published this week by Page, Chief of the UN Mission for Justice in Haiti (MINUJUSTH), in which she  said that she welcomed the appointment of a judge to further investigate the PetroCaribe corruption while regretting that a judge has yet to be appointed to investigate allegations of human rights violations committed by police officers.
The diplomat, specifically, mentioned the murder of a person at the hands of Haitian National Police (PNH) agents in the city of Lilavois, on October 12, 2017, as well as the "summary execution" of eight civilians on November 12 of last year in Grand Ravine.

"I ask the competent authorities to proceed without further delay to the appointment of the investigating judges in these two cases, as provided by law," Page said.

In that same communiqué, the UN representative in Haiti said that Haitian judges have decided to investigate allegations of alleged corruption committed in the administration of the funds generated by the Petrocaribe agreement.

The ambassador recalls, in the statement, that Haiti is listed as the most corrupt country in the Caribbean in a report recently published by Transparency International.

The Haitian government, however, rejected Page's statements and said that these occur at a time when the authorities are working for stability and peace, and condemned that "others dictate what the country has to do."

"The statement by the representative of the UN Secretary-General in Haiti and the head of the MIMUJUSTH comes at a time when the country is calm," said the Foreign Ministry in a statement.

The Haitian Foreign Ministry regretted that the representative of the UN issued these statements just at the time that organization directs the international search for funds to help the victims of cholera.
